The Jaguar XK140 was first introduced at the London Motor Show in 1954. Upgrades over its predecessor, the XK120, included better brakes, rack and pinion steering, and modern tube type shock absorbers instead of the older lever arm design.

The name referred to its 140 mph top speed. The XK140 continued to feature the famous Jaguar XK engine from the XK120 as standard, now delivering 190 bhp at 5550 rpm. The engine and bulkhead were moved forward three inches compared to the earlier cars, and the extra space used to fit occasional rear seats. The exterior changed little from the 120, except for the fitting of much heavier bumpers. However the DHC roofline was extended backward and 1 1/2 inches up, to give much more space inside than the XK 120 DHC.

The XK 140 was outfitted with more chrome and badges than the XK120, including chrome strips along the middle of the hood and trunk. A cast radiator grille with fewer and thicker slats replaced the more delicate and expensive XK120 item. Like the XK 120 before it, the XK 140 FHC and DHC continued to have dashboards and door cappings covered in walnut wood, padding on the tops of the doors, and side screens for weather protection. The XK 140 was the first Jaguar sports car to be offered with automatic transmission.

This green XK 140 DHC with a tan roof is completely unrestored, with the exception of wheels that were taken from the earlier XK 120 model.
