Aston Martin DB 2/4 DHC was first introduced to the public at the London Motor Show in 1953. The styling and performance of the DB 2/4 is based on the DB2 model it replaced, but features 2+2 seating and a novel hatch back. Other changes include a wraparound windscreen, larger bumpers, and repositioned headlights. As on the DB 2, a drophead coup (DHC) option was available.
Initially the 2/4 had, as standard, the 2.6 liter engine straight from the DB2 which produced 125 bhp. Then from mid 1954, an enlarged 2.9 liter was introduced giving 140bhp. This translated into a genuine 120mph top speed. Aston Martin ceased production of the DB 2/4 in 1957, and the car's niche was filled by the new DB MK II.
This teal DB 2/4 is the same vehicle driven by Tippi Hedren up the California coast in the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock film "The Birds". The vehicle was bought at the RM auction in 2001 and is in its entire original form and in spectacular shape, save for the need for new tires.
